About Steve
I started learning trombone aged 11, and from there my obsession with music increased exponentially, studying O level and A level Music, then completing a classical music honours degree at the University of York under Professor John Paynter. Along the way I have also studied bass guitar, double bass, drum kit and saxophone, as well as guitar and piano.
My early fascination with composition continued at university and then led me to focus on this aspect of music during the 1990's in London, where I operated as a freelance professional musician, working with and writing for musicians such as Kenny Thomas, in Roger Taylor's personal studio and as a producer/artist developer managed by Tony Hall in Carnaby Street, as well as many other working bands and dance music/R'n'B labels. I even wrote music for TV hypnotherapist Robert Farago (on Richard and Judy's This Morning Show) as well as music for advertisements.
From 2000 I trained as a music teacher in North London and, having qualified, then worked in a large upper school in Wimborne, Dorset, becoming Director of Music there. I have taught 1000's of students over the last 25 years, from 13-18 and many of my former students have gone on to work in the music industry.
Retiring from teaching in 2025, my wife and I have relocated to her home county of Cornwall, and I am looking forward to building up my private teaching practice in the beautiful locale of Looe, as well as continuing to teach my previous students online.
I am an extremely passionate musician and teacher and I would love the opportunity to help you achieve your musical desires and potential. Email me or give me a call and we can have a chat about it!
